1. Who We Are

Been There Inc Ltd is the data controller for your personal information. Registered in England and Wales (Companies House: 16104018). Contact us at jamie.pakenham-walsh@beenthereapp.co.uk.

2. Information We Collect

Account: Your name, email address, and profile photo. If you sign in with Google, Apple, Microsoft, or Facebook, we receive your name and email from that provider.

Content: Places you save, posts and photos you create, wishlists, and your friend connections.

Analytics: We use PostHog (EU servers) to understand how you use the app. This data is linked to your account and includes actions such as creating posts, adding friends, and completing onboarding, as well as your device type and app version.

Website analytics: This website sends PostHog (EU servers) a page view and a record of clicks on the App Store and Google Play buttons. It sets no cookies and stores nothing on your device, the data is not linked to any account, and we cannot use it to identify you or follow you between visits.

Security logs: Authentication events (e.g. session refreshes) logged for diagnostic purposes and retained for 90 days.

3. How We Use It

To provide and improve the Been There service, show your posts and places to your friends, personalise your experience, and fix technical issues. Analytics data is not shared with advertisers. To find and fix problems in the app we may record how its screens are used (session replay): anything you type, your photos and other images are masked on your device before a recording is sent, and recordings are kept for 90 days.

4. Third-Party Services

PostHog (analytics, EU servers, posthog.com/privacy)
Google, Apple, Microsoft, Facebook (sign-in only: we only receive your name and email)
Google Fonts (this website only: loading fonts sends your IP address to Google's servers)

5. Data Retention

Account and content data is held while your account is active and removed within 30 days of deletion. Product analytics events are retained for up to 7 years; session recordings for 90 days.

6. Your Rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or export your data, and to object to analytics processing. To exercise any of these rights, email jamie.pakenham-walsh@beenthereapp.co.uk and we will respond within one month. You also have the right to complain to the ICO at any time.

7. Deleting Your Account

You can delete your Been There account at any time. In the app, go to Settings › Account Management › Delete account. You will be asked to confirm twice. It cannot be undone.

No app access? Email jamie.pakenham-walsh@beenthereapp.co.uk from the address you signed up with. We will reply within 7 days and finish the deletion within 30.

Deleting your account removes your profile, posts, photos, comments, friends, wishlist, and notifications across our services. Analytics events are kept in anonymised form so they can no longer be linked back to you, and encrypted backups roll off within 30 days.
